Our group checked out of San Want hotel around 8am (ew. early.) and hopped on our local Shanghai tour bus for the last time. We went to the No. 2 High School of East China Normal University (but let me just tell you that it was FAR from normal!), which was GLORIOUS. We arrived at what looked like a beautiful college campus, and were greeted by an enthusiastic group of students. They led us to this incredible science lab, notably on of the best in all of China I believe, and we sat around a group of desks arranged in a circle. The students had Evan, Daksh and Abishek, me and Ally, and Ken explain our projects to the group, and then they all asked wonderful questions (like the kinds of questions that made it seem like they were actually paying attention), and then they explained their own science fair projects, which were absolutely fascinating. After we all finished exchanging ideas and project plans, they took us on a tour around the school. THEN, we enjoyed an ordinary Chinese school lunch. Man, I wish our school lunches were half as good as the ones at the No 2 High School! |
After lunch, we said goodbye to our lovely new friends at the No. 2 High School, and headed over to the Intel office in Shanghai, where we got to explore the surprisingly fun and supportive work environment. There was a gym, a basketball court, several pantries for taking breaks, a yoga room, and of course, a gigantic cafeteria. We then sat in for a short lecture led by Dr. Huang Bo, where he talked a bit about Intel's history, it's goals and motives, and what's coming up next (super exciting!), I honestly wish I knew more about computers... A lot of the computery jargon he talked about went in one ear, and directly out the other. Overall, it was a VERY cool experience being able to see what kind of work environment Intel prepares for their valued employees. After Intel, we headed back to PuDong Airport, CHENGDU BOUND! I know this sounds silly, but the way we got to the plane was SO DANG COOL TO ME! It was my first time lining up to board a plane, but then being led onto a bus, which drove us to the plane. We had to walk up a flight of stairs that led to the plane's entrance. No joke, I felt like a president at that very moment. It was awesome. Anyway, that just about wraps up today's adventure. We just arrived at our hotel in Chengdu, which is super swanky! :) Ally just brought it to my attention that we still have 9 days left. OMG! This is such an incredible trip! :D |
